Veiling/Revealing Series

Inspired by the beauty of Titian's 16th century portraiture and the luxury of velvet, satin and silk fabrics, Paulette Long's series, "veiling/revealing," is a modern hybrid of abstraction and realism. Noting drapery's historic allusion to theater, fashion and interiors, she explores the power of fabric to simultaneously expose and conceal. With sensual and controlled brushwork, Long boldly renders the lines and folds of fabric to create both stillness and rhythmic movement. Her paintings invite viewers to contrast what is distinct with what is hidden, what is a still life and what is a living thing.
